You probably heard about NFTs by now. If you haven’t heard it already, well, don’t live under the rock. Nfts are crypto tokens that have their own unique identity. Think of it as cryptographic blockchain assets with their own identity and irreplaceable. In simple terms, NFT is an asset with a unique identity and can prove its ownership with the help of blockchain.
Traditional arts or masterpieces are valuable because they are kind and unique. No other person can replicate the same masterpiece, but people can reproduce or copy and paste other’s works in the digital world.
That’s not the case with NFTs. Cause you can tokenize your artwork which will act as a certificate of ownership. To keep it simple. They are tokenized digital assets, anything from arts to lands, etc. It’s the hot topic of the internet right now, along with the Metaverse.
It would be best to have some opinions about Nfts by now. Some big names like Elon Musk and Keanu Reeves have some of their views too.
Elon Musk, who was recently titled Person of the year by Times magazine, is known for controversial tweets. He often tweets about cryptocurrency and technology. Elon Musk is a supporter of cryptocurrency. His tweets prove that. Mainly the popular meme currency, Dogecoin. Elon said that he values the idea of a joke currency evolving into something valuable. But for NFTs, let’s say he has different values.
One day, Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus tweeted as he discussed the number of scams in the industry. Musk quickly reacted, saying, “NFTs are jpeging the dollar.”
That was when we knew Musk and NFTs don’t mix well together. Even earlier today, he shared an image on Twitter, posting an older adult sitting on a chair and a guy (20-25years old) sitting on a couch in the background. The text above that image said, “These NFTs – are they in the room with us right now?”. which possibly indicates that NFTs are not the real thing. Even if it’s true or false (depending on what you think), NFT enthusiasts didn’t like what they saw. So the followers are splitting, but what you gonna do, that’s musk for you.
Even the most loved actor, Keanu Reeves, shares a somewhat similar opinion. In an interview of The Verge with Keanu Reeves shared some of his thoughts about Metaverse and NFTs. He asked, “Can we just not have Metaverse invented by Facebook?” It’s not like Keanu doesn’t love the concept, and he might be just cautious about Facebook (Meta) creating the Metaverse. Well, we all know the history of Facebook (Meta) handling our data.
The interviewer of the Verge, Heath, was talking about Nfts saying “things that can’t be copied.” Keanu replied, “They are easily reproduced.” and laughed. While some in the NFT community laughed as well, but at Keanu’s response, others stated that it’s not wise to ask “actors for investment advice.”
In both Elon Musk and Keanu Reeves, they shared their opinions in a humorous way. As we all know, the topic of NFT is controversial itself. Most people hate or dislike it because People spend vast amounts of money on them for seemingly foolish and pointless assets, such as an unclear claim of “ownership” of (but not copyright to) virtual images that are easily downloadable by everyone. So It’s seen as a ridiculous trend. Whatever the reason be, it is unlikely to disappear NFTs in the near future, thanks to the announcement of Metaverse.
