Thousands of Egyptian women are put to prison every year for failing to repay loans as small as $254.
In Egypt, the Children of Female Prisoners Association seeks to free imprisoned women and their children. Horizon FCB Dubai launched “Breakchains with Blockchain” on behalf of the organisation, which uses NFTs to free women from prison.
Artists from all over the world created 16 NFTs that convey the story of each woman and why she was imprisoned. Each NFT is priced at the amount that will allow them to be released from prison. The promotion kicked off on March 21st, Egypt’s Mother’s Day, and three moms had their loans returned that day thanks to NFT sales.
