Pixelmon has become the crypto industry’s complete embarrassment. It raised $70 million USD to develop “the largest and greatest quality game the NFT space has ever seen,” only to offer poor in-game art. Pixelmon creator Syber, revealed to be a 19-year-old New Zealand streamer with no relevant game development experience, promised to create a AAA-quality Web3 game involving catching and trading Pixelmon creatures.

Users spent 3 ETH (about $9,200) to mint a Pixelmon, and the price has since plummeted to around 0.4 ETH.

According to reports, the Pixelmon team just purchased the artwork from the Unity marketplace.
