The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has sued Meta to stop it from “owning” the metaverse sector.
The FTC filing showed that the commission thinks Meta’s purchase of Within is another step the company is taking to control the space.
The FTC filed the lawsuit on July 27 to stop Meta from buying Within, a company that makes apps for virtual reality. Supernatural, a popular virtual reality app, was made by a company called Within Unlimited. Meta said it would buy the VR company in October 2021, and the deal was supposed to be done by August.
