Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, said late Sunday night that he and state lawmakers had reached a deal on a $17 billion “inflation relief package.”

“As part of a new tax rebate for the middle class, up to $1,050 will be given to millions of Californians. That’s more money for you to put gas in your car and food on the table,” he wrote on Twitter.
